The Kentfield Schools Foundation: a brief history

California's funding for public schools declined dramatically with the passage of Proposition 13 in 1978. The Kentfield School District's schools, like many other public schools in California, were forced to make personnel and program cutbacks. In response, a group of concerned parents formed the Citizen's Finance Committee to keep educational programs intact, as well as to ensure that many excellent teachers would not lose their jobs.

In 1980, the Citizen's Finance Committee evolved into the the Kentfield Schools Foundation (KSF), one of the first non-profit educational foundations in the country.

During the past two decades, the KSF has raised over $10 million, funds that have gone directly into bettering educational programs for the students of the Kentfield School District. As a result of the dedicated work of the committed volunteer parents who have served on the Foundation's Board over the years, Kent and Bacich score in the top percentile in state mandated tests and are always among the top districts in Marin County.
